TRICARE PHARMACY INCREASES:

Military family members and retirees who do not get their medications at a military pharmacy can expect to see increases in their copayments at retail pharmacies and through the TRICARE mail-order delivery system in 2022. At retail pharmacies in the TRICARE network, prescriptions will cost $14 for a 30-day supply of a generic drug up from $13; $38 for a brand-name medication, up from $33; and $68 for a non-formulary drug not listed in Tricare’s covered medications, up from $60.

Copayments for the mail-order pharmacy managed by TRICARE pharmacy benefits manager Express Scripts also will rise: $10 to $12 for a 90-day brand-name script. Non-formulary drugs will cost $58.

CVS returns to TRICARE pharmacy network:

After a five-year absence, CVS Pharmacy is returning to the TRICARE network, with 10, 000 stores to provide retail pharmacy services to TRICARE beneficiaries. Departing the network is Walmart and its bulk discount affiliate Sam’s Club, which operate 5,300 pharmacies nationwide. Officials with Express Scripts, TRICARE’s pharmacy benefit management company, say the change, which will affect more than 600,000 beneficiaries will expand choice and improve quality.

Some TRICARE users are unhappy with the decision since Walmart offers many generic prescriptions for a $4 copay – lower than TRICARE’s retail copay. The company says it offer that program to all its customers regardless of insurance and TRICARE beneficiaries are still welcome. For brand names, however, military personnel and retirees will need to use the mail-order pharmacy of a network pharmacy to save money.
